iPhone 6 and 6 Plus Cases and Accessories: Best Cases for Phone Protection

2014/10/7      view:

Remember when the biggest worry for iPhone owners was cracking the screen? Yeah, those were the days.

Add the increasingly popular skinny jeans, the decreasingly thick iPhone 6 and now iPhone owners have to worry about their phones bending while in their pockets, on top of the usual concerns.

All the more reason for users to invest in a rugged case to protect their upper three-figure investment.

iPhone 6 users have plenty of choices, as the smartphone case industry has been booming in recent times. But which cases can be counted on to come out of a skinny-jean pocket still straight?

Forbes recently reviewed several sturdy cases for the iPhone 6 and came to the conclusion that no one case is best for overall protection, but each holds up pretty well on its own.

The Under Armor Gear Folio probably is the best case to protect the iPhone 6 from a drop, as it has been certified to meet military grade drop-test standards.

To get that certification, "[The] device must be dropped from a height of 48 inches, on each face, corner, and back. The device is dropped a total of 26 times and must function properly after the test, while not sustaining any damage to the touch screen."

The Gear Folio is available on Amazon for just less than $40 with free shipping.

The iBattz Refuel Alpha case for iPhone 6 hasn't been released yet, but if it's anything like the iPhone 5 version, reviewers are expecting a waterproof, dust-proof and grit-proof phone that also protects against drops.

The Alpha also has an extra, removable battery that provides additional charge when your phone is out of juice.

The Otterbox Defender is another case that reviewers say offers full protection for the iPhone 6 with three layers that each have a separate job in defending the device. The Defender also has plugs to protect all iPhone jacks when they're not being used and a "protective membrane" that protects the TouchID.

More cases are still being announced and made available, so stay tuned for further iPhone 6 and 6 Plus case reviews.
